Childcare Level 2 Certificate / Apprenticeship

The Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce is suitable for those who are employed in a childcare setting and have recently started their career in early years. It allows you to work with children under supervision and count in the staff ratios.

The qualification develops your personal knowledge of childcare and the essential skills involved in working with children.

The course is made up of 35 credits and should take around eight months to complete.

You will have access to e-learning tutorials and resources throughout your qualification so you can easily fit study around your work, social and family commitments.

Assessment is by workplace observation. Your assessor will visit your setting to monitor you carrying out practical tasks, answering questions and report writing. They will also be in regular contact to provide continued support and answer questions to help you stay motivated and on track.

You have the option to study for the Level 2 Certificate on its own, or as part of an Apprenticeship which includes additional benefits such as Employment Rights and Responsibilities. The apprenticeship develops individual skills beyond standard childcare practice and provides excellent scope for career progression and can be transferred into any industry profession. The cost depends on several factors such as the type of course chosen, your age, other qualifications and your local authority; however you can usually apply for course funding which can cover all or some of the course costs.
